Incremental or full X bookmark update: which should you use?

Use incremental updates for recent content after a successful collection. Use full updates to check older accessible records and bookmark folder changes. Neither mode guarantees access to content X no longer returns.

Choose a mode for your situation

With no saved records, start with a full update. If you collected recently and only want recent activity, an incremental update avoids repeating a full collection.

Xkeeps recommends a mode from your saved records and last completed full run. If a long time has passed or you need to check older records and folders, use a full update. You can override the recommendation.

Understand count changes

The archive total before and after the update is the clearest measure of growth. A run may observe many posts and add few new records because most were already saved.

New records, refreshed records and retained history have different meanings. Incremental collection is not a deletion mirror: earlier locally saved records are retained when absent from a recent run.

Choose a snapshot or history

A latest collection snapshot represents the run’s observations, not only the difference since the prior run. An incremental snapshot may cover just recent pages while the accumulated archive keeps older history.

When exporting after an update, check which scope is selected. Choose the accumulated archive if you intend to back up all retained local records.

Interpret time correctly

The date filter uses the original post publication time. A post published last year could have been bookmarked today, so publication-date filtering cannot identify everything you saved today.

A collection timestamp tells you when Xkeeps captured the records. It does not establish the precise time you bookmarked or liked each post. Partial results and failed requests remain important even when a run finishes.
