X bookmark export: JSON vs CSV vs Markdown

Choose a format based on what you want to do next. The same filtered collection can be exported in more than one format; image and video downloads are a separate choice.

JSON: preserve structured records

Use JSON when you want a restorable record backup. It preserves the collected structured records for the selected scope and supports later preview, import and merge in Xkeeps.

JSON is not a promise of every field ever held by X. It contains the records Xkeeps collected. Media URLs in the record are references, not embedded image or video files.

CSV: organize in a spreadsheet

Use CSV for rows you can sort and review in a spreadsheet. Check columns, encoding and dates after opening the file in your spreadsheet application.

CSV is not a complete round-trip archive format in Xkeeps. Its reading preview is useful, but use JSON when you need to restore and continue updating records.

Markdown: readable text for notes

Use Markdown for a text-based copy that is easier to read or move into a notes workflow. It is useful when the written content matters more than the original structured record.

Links to remote images are not an offline media backup. Markdown currently supports reading previews rather than full archive restoration in Xkeeps.

Media and the HTML viewer

Select avatars, post images or video/GIF when you want the actual media saved. These selections are packaged with records and an HTML viewer, rather than changing what JSON, CSV or Markdown means.

For a practical backup, keep JSON and the selected media together. For quick reading, open the extracted HTML viewer. Check the output offline and keep the entire directory intact.
