Install and update Xkeeps in desktop Chrome
Xkeeps currently offers a local ZIP for desktop Chrome 120 or later. The Chrome Web Store release is not yet available; this installation uses Chrome’s Load unpacked feature.

Download and extract the release
Download the ZIP from the official Xkeeps homepage and extract it to a folder you plan to keep. The release metadata provides the extension version, package size and SHA-256 for comparison.
Open chrome://extensions/ in desktop Chrome and enable Developer mode. Choose Load unpacked and select the folder directly containing manifest.json. Do not select the ZIP or an extra parent folder.
Connect your account safely
Pin and open Xkeeps. Sign in to X in your own browser, then confirm the connected account in Xkeeps. You do not create an additional Xkeeps account or give the developer your X password.
Try a small saved collection or demonstration JSON first. The desktop extension handles collection; a phone or tablet can read exported files but cannot install this extension in mobile Chrome.
Update without discarding records
Export a JSON backup and finish active collections or downloads before updating. Extract the new release and replace runtime files in the directory already loaded by Chrome. Avoid adding an extra nested directory.
Reload the existing extension card in chrome://extensions/ and check its version. Keep the original directory and extension identity; uninstalling by default can discard browser-local data.
Fix common loading mistakes
If Chrome cannot find the manifest, select the extracted folder that actually contains manifest.json. If the version is unchanged, check the directory and reload the existing card.
If your X connection has expired, refresh the connection from Account. Refreshing the connection does not delete saved archives. X changes and access limits can still interrupt a collection.
